People in love celebrate this Day almost all over the world. They send each other valentines – special love cards, usually heart-shaped. They spend all the day together, watching romantic movies, walking, dining in restaurants. And, of course, they cook delicious meals for their lovers.

Origin

There are several legends about the origin of the holiday. The most common says that the day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine. He served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. But priest Saint Valentine continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When the Emperor discovered that he ordered the priest to be put to death.

Saint Valentine's Day is one of the most wide-spread and favourite holidays of youth. But people of any age celebrate it. Very often couples have dinner in the restaurant on this day, but much more romantic is to have a meal with candles and hearts at home, where there are just two of you. It can be even more nice and loving, if food is cooked by the Man (husband, boy-friend or just friend).
